According to Monday, August 26 article in the New York Times, “the police in Hollywood, Fla., plan to charge four employees of a nursing home in the deaths of a dozen residents who succumbed to heat exposure there in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in 2017.”
After the hurricane swept through South Florida and knocked out power for air conditioning at the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, elderly residents faced hot and humid temperatures and claims of improper care during this time. Eventually 12 residents died.
The administrator of the nursing home and three nurses will be charged.
