Enjoying vacation time at a vacation resort can easily turn from relaxing to tragic, if the property owners don’t put the safety of their guests first. Throughout Florida, the U.S., the Caribbean, and on cruise ships, individuals are seriously injured or worse as a result of the lack of precaution and safety in their attempt to deliver over-the-top entertainment.
In Florida alone, on the Fourth of July holiday, a child drowned at the Mystic Dunes Resort in Celebration, Florida just outside of Orlando. On July 1st, a 5-year-old girl was pulled from the Harbor Lakes Resort pool—a Marriott hotel product featuring a pirate ship pool theme—before being transported to the local hospital where she then died due to the trauma. The same day, a seven-year-old boy was hospitalized after nearly drowning at the Orlando World Center Marriott.
In each case, the resort offered sprawling, super-sized pools replete with recreational amenities such as a two-story water slides and thousands of square feet of deck space without the proper safety precautions or warnings.
We have all heard about the tragic alligator attack at Walt Disney World’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa on June 16, 2016 where two-year-old Lane Graves died after being dragged into a natural body of water at the resort. Disney attempted to explain the incident as an uncontrollable act of nature, but evidence surfaced that showed knowledge of the danger prior to the tragedy. In 2017, The Washington Post reported that Disney had removed hundreds of alligators from its lake in years prior—83 in 2017 alone and six of them just days before the tragic event.
And it’s not just water-related accidents that one must be wary of. This week, a woman in Jackson Hole, Wyoming was transported to the hospital after falling from a local ski resort’s chairlift to the hard ground below.
In sum, many resorts, parks, fairs, and cruises are looking to entertain guests with attractions that are known to be dangerous. They are failing to take the proper precautions. Your safety as a guest at these resorts MUST always come first!
